Applicants for the Virginia Tech Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program will be selected from candidates who belong to Category 4 of Standard 10 of the AACSB Accreditation Standards. Category 4 refers to “a doctoral degree outside of business and primary teaching responsibilities that do not incorporate the area of academic preparation”. Individuals meeting this condition would not be considered academically qualified without additional coursework that prepares them to participate in the “mix of teaching, intellectual contribution, and service” sought by the hiring school.

For the finance track, the preferred candidate will possess a doctoral degree in economics.  Qualified applicants for themanagement and marketing tracks include students with doctoral degrees in psychology (particularly with social or cognitive emphasis), sociology, or statistics.

Candidates for our program with doctoral degrees in economics (for the finance track) and in psychology, sociology or statistics (for the management and marketing tracks) will be selected from U.S. and non-U.S. universities.  For U.S. universities, a minimum requirement that they have an AACSB Accredited business school will normally apply.  Beyond that, each of the departments listed above must normally belong to schools accredited by their respective accreditation boards. For non-U.S. universities, the same accreditation requirements will apply except that local accreditation may substitute for U.S. accreditation. Exceptions are possible on a case by case basis.

Candidate Selection

All admission decisions on the applications received will be made by admissions committees in the finance, management and marketing departments, headed by the Track Directors and in consultation with the respective Department Heads. Admission criteria will include the candidates’ course work, academic performance, research success and teaching experience in their current disciplines.

It is imperative that we restrict admissions to candidates with strong academic backgrounds who have a high potential to become academically qualified business faculty for at least 5 years following the completion of our rigorous program.
