Management Track Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program

The Management Track of the Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program offered by the Pamplin College of Business is an eight week/320 contact hour, residential program which provides management education in 12 modules:

  • Overview of Business and Management
  • Diversity Management
  • Innovation and Technology Management
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Human Resource Management
  • International Business/International Management
  • Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Business Policy and Strategy
  • Strategic Management
  • Training in Philosophy of Science and Research Methods
  • A Research Practicum

The Management Track will focus on both micro- and macro-areas of management and will cover the above topics from both a research and teaching perspective. Having successfully completed the program, the graduating candidate will be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a management department, and successfully initiate a research agenda in management. He or she will be deemed academically qualified by AACSB to transition into management academics. See the Curriculum section for details.

 

Virginia Tech Management

The Department of Management at Virginia Tech is extremely well qualified to offer a high quality Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program. Our doctoral program produces graduates who will be among the next generation of research faculty at top academic institutions. The curriculum emphasizes a solid foundation in strategic management, organization theory, organizational behavior, human resource management and ethics and social responsibility.

The Department of Management has had a strong PhD program for over 30 years and has great success in placing our graduates.  Our doctoral graduates have had initial placements at such institutions as Pennsylvania State University (main campus), Indiana University (Bloomington), New Mexico State University, Ohio University Bucknell University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Vanderbilt University,  Doctoral program alumni currently hold such distinguished positions as Dean of the Graduate School at Indiana University (Bloomington), Director of the Beard Center for Leadership and Ethics at Duquesne University, Newmont Endowed Chair of Business Strategy at York University (Canada), Director of the Global Business Studies Programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and editor of the Journal of Organizational Psychology.

Departmental faculty who will be serving as your mentors are extremely well-connected in such organizations as the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, the Society for Human Resource Management, the International Association of Business and Society and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.  Faculty also serve on editorial boards for such prestigious journals as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, and Academy of Management Journal.
