Opportunity: When Demand Exceeds Supply
Pamplin Atrium
Demand for qualified faculty in U.S. business schools is increasingly outpacing the supply. Our Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program prepares non-business doctorates for positions as academically qualified (AQ) faculty in business disciplines where serious doctoral faculty shortages exist.
- Immersion Program Enables Achievement
Virginia Tech’s eight-week, residential program provides qualified candidates with the knowledge and skills to seek academic, tenure-track positions at colleges and schools of business that emphasize achievement in instruction and research/publication in the academic journals of finance and marketing. The curriculum leverages candidates’ prior academic training to promote opportunities for interdisciplinary research with faculty who have received doctorates in business fields.
- Finance and Marketing Tracks Provide Topical Depth
Finance and marketing-specific courses and activities are conducted for seven of the eight weeks. This includes courses designed for this program, as well as selected graduate courses and doctoral seminars. Exposure to a range of teaching styles, augmented by instruction from faculty in Virginia Tech’s Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, assists candidates in the development of effective pedagogical skills for instruction in business schools, across levels of academic attainment, ranging from undergraduate to executive and doctoral degrees.
Attendance is limited to 50 participants, with 25 participants in each of the two tracks. Program participants have complete access to Virginia Tech’s 2600 acre campus and its extensive academic, research and cultural infrastructure.
This program is endorsed by AACSB International, the premier accrediting body for business schools worldwide. Graduates of AACSB endorsed programs will be, based on determination of the hiring school, considered academically qualified for the period of five years from program completion.
